Replacing Fragmented Systems with a Single Source of Truth

In 2023, DSM-Firmenich brought two iconic companies together and inherited two sets of everything: taxonomies, ERP systems, and thousands of local reporting habits.

Overnight, the new company became a nearly $13 billion organization with more than a million invoices a year and 31,000 suppliers.

"Each company had its own way of working," says Joshua Tuller, Director of Procurement Reporting & Analytics. “Different taxonomies, different reports, even different definitions of spend. We couldn't make decisions fast enough.”

Leaders expected procurement to deliver synergies and value at speed, but the lack of a solid data foundation prevented the team from responding to shifts in the global supply market.

Building a Shared Language

To bridge the divide, DSM-Firmenich selected Sievo as its unified procurement analytics platform.

“From day one, Sievo was our single source of truth,” Tuller says. “Now, we like saying if it's not in Sievo, it doesn't exist.”

The implementation focused on three pillars: unified spend visibility across both legacy organizations, a shared taxonomy and governance model with structured approval workflows, and scaled adoption through Sievo Academy training for hundreds of procurement professionals worldwide.

To support the three pillars, Sievo also integrated sustainability metrics from EcoVadis and the Science Based Targets initiative, extending unified visibility and governance to ESG data.

Building the case

Fast Process, Lasting Change

The results defied conventional merger timelines. Just 60 days after the merger, DSM-Firmenich achieved full visibility into 1.2 million annual invoices. By day 100, procurement and finance were tracking savings in one shared environment, marking the first fully integrated digital system in the newly merged company.

For DSM-Firmenich, Sievo has grown from a tool addressing a specific challenge into the foundation for how procurement operates across the business.

"Sievo has really given us the ability to respond not only with our internal roadmap but to everything that changes in the world—whether it's tariff-related, supply chain issues, all different kinds of things”, Tuller notes.

The unified taxonomy now underpins every procurement report globally. This enables the organization to measure delivered value and performance as well as report progress confidently to finance and leadership. With Sievo, the DSM-Firmenich transformed a post-merger challenge into a scalable way of working.

“We see Sievo as a co-developer”, Tuller says, “They're constantly bringing us innovations, new ideas, and it's fantastic to be able to partner with such a wonderful company.”
